My beau has been pretty amazing lately and I wanted to show him that the extra effort is both noticed and appreciated. Because Taco Tuesday is a full staple in our household, I turned to Goldbelly to make last week’s extra special. There I found Sky’s Tacos, which bills themselves as “Mexican with a splash of soul.” I love founder Barbara Jean “Sky” Burrell’s story: she was the first African American hired by the Kroger, oversaw a staff of 200 at United Way, was on the board of The Watts Labor Action Committee, and was part of the team that introduced the first drive-thru for McDonald’s. After all those accomplishments, she opened Sky’s Tacos in LA and brought her unique southern style tacos to the masses.

I chose the taco kit with steak and was not disappointed. I love that it came with some cardboard taco stands. I added some avocado and sour cream to mine that I happened to have at home, but it doesn’t even need it. The steak was just the right amount of saucy and packed with spices and the signature Sassy Sauce was a nice sweet balance. It also took a total of 5 minutes to put together yet the steak tasted like it had been simmering on the stove for hours – they nailed the prep/packing/shipping with this one.
